Ready Vet Go is proud to be appointed an emergency veterinary care option for pets in the Department of Agriculture's Post-Entry Quarantine (PEQ) Facility.

Our team is on-call to assist with urgent medical needs for dogs and cats in quarantine, ensuring fast, professional response when there is a medical concern for your pet.

What This Means for Pet Owners

All pets entering Australia must undergo a mandatory quarantine period at the PEQ facility in Mickleham for at least 10 days. During that time, the facility's staff monitor and report any new or ongoing health concerns and care.Pets in unfamiliar environments are prone to illnesses and conditions such as gastrointestinal upset or stress-induced cystitis (inflammation of the bladder), no matter how attentive and caring the staff are with the pets in their care.

When your pet experiences an unexpected urgent or emergency medical event, Ready Vet Go is able to bring the Emergency Hospital to PEQ. Our services are coordinated directly through PEQ staff and may include:

  • Emergency stabilisation and life-saving intervention
  • On-site veterinary treatment and minor procedures
  • Ambulance transport to veterinary hospitals when required

Your pet’s welfare is our top priority.

Our Role at the PEQ

As a mobile veterinary emergency provider and vet ambulance, Ready Vet Go offers:

  • An Emergency Veterinarian and Veterinary Nurse
  • After-hours emergency attendance
  • Emergency Pharmacy on board
  • Life-saving interventions including oxygen, critical care monitoring and seizure management
  • Immediate triage and veterinary assessment
  • Support for urgent or deteriorating cases
  • Vet ambulance transport for critical patient care
  • Coordination with PEQ veterinary staff and government protocols

Our mission is to ensure pets in quarantine receive responsive, high-quality medical attention when the unexpected happens and their family are not around.

How Does it Work with Ready Vet Go?

The Triage Process:

Ready Vet Go provides triage over the phone, much like the human emergency services. We will inform you of the following:

  • Whether we believe that your pet requires a Veterinary assessment based on the information provided
  • A real-time expectation on our expected time of arrival
  • Honest and upfront expectation about our service’s capacity to see your pet in the recommended timeframe. This means that you will know right from the start if we can get to your pet in a timely manner
The Consultation:

Our emergency veterinary team provide a full comprehensive assessment based on their presentation, including:

  • Vital Signs Assessment
  • Primary Survey
  • Cardiac Monitoring
  • Neurological Assessment
  • Orthopaedic Assessment
  • FAST Ultrasound
  • Pathology
  • And more…

Once the assessment is complete, we provide you and the PEQ team with an overview of the findings, diagnosis or potential diagnosis and management options based on your pet’s presentation.

Medication:

Ready Vet Go has a pharmacy of emergency medications that are able to be prescribed and dispensed at the time of the consultation. This includes:

  • Antibiotics
  • Pain Relief
  • Anti-Anxiety medications
  • Anti-Nausea medications
  • Anti-Seizure Medications
  • Cardiac Medications
  • And more…

Once the plan is confirmed by you, we provide the PEQ staff with a comprehensive handover that includes the medication management plan. This includes any potential side effects and also the expected trajectory of the overall management plan. This means that the staff are notified under what circumstances we would expect them to escalate to veterinary care again.

Escalating Concerns:

Ready Vet Go works the same way as the Human Ambulance services. Where there is a serious concern for your pet’s condition, we are able to provide emergency intervention immediately with the aim of stabilising your pet and getting them to the emergency hospital in our Vet Ambulance. Our critical care transport is the only one of its kind in Australia and allows for our Emergency Vet to be with your pet at all times on the way to the hospital to provide any necessary care or intervention on the way.

Offering this resource to pet owners with pets in PEQ reflects our shared commitment to animal welfare. PEQ Standards

Nic and Paul have personally toured the PEQ and they were impressed! There is a lot of misconception about PEQ, but we are here to say that the staff working there honestly do care.

We know that your pets would much prefer to be at home with you, but we can assure you that the measures and environment we have seen, really does allow your pet to be well-cared for. This is even more impressive considering that PEQ receives every pet flying into Australia for quarantine no matter which state or territory they will reside in after.

The kennels and catteries are spacious, homely and clean. Each pet’s room has documented updates on the outside of the room, even down to a half-eaten or missed meal.

Please note - we are not endorsed or paid by PEQ, nor do we have a contract with them. The decision for us to provide vet care comes from you as the owner. However, we write this to provide you with as much reassurance as we can.

With Paul having seen first-hand the devastating effects of some of the diseases that PEQ protects us and our other pets in Australia from (rabies, for example), we are extremely grateful to their dedication and hard work.

Ready Vet Go visited us on a Sunday when we had concerns about our dog. Paul and Nic were so reassuring, thorough, and gave us a plan and medication for ongoing treatment. They were gentle and caring with our darling dog, and we knew from the get go that he was in very kind and safe hands! The follow up was excellent too.
